July 2008 Archives

I'll admit, I'm a little biased on this one, folks. As a former literature student, I love books. At home, my walls are covered by shelf after shelf of books, the backseat of my car looks like a small library. Having said that, one thing that I am always fascinated by is the cover art of books. I know, I know, "you can't judge a book by its cover" but I say sometimes you can.

Before you all start to wonder where I'm going with this, I'll cut to the chase: Urban Outfitters has slashed the prices on all of their vintage book cover art prints. A majority of the titles are down to $29.99 from the original price of $78.00, which is a savings of more than 60%. Get prints from a number of your favorite authors or books. Be forewarned: the selections are spread across three different web pages. Also, the two most in-demand prints have gone down to $49.99, which is still over 35% off the original price. Click on any of the following pictures or text to access the pages for each set of prints listed to the right of it.

Jack Kerouac's On The Road

JD Salinger's Catcher in the Rye

Hunter S. Thompson's Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas

Vladimir Nabokov's Lolita

Harper Lee's To Kill a Mockingbird

Charles Bukowski's There's No Business

Joseph Heller's Catch 22

William Burroughs' Naked Lunch

Tennessee Williams' A Streetcar Named Desire

Philip K. Dick's UBIK

Welcome to the first of (hopefully) many installments of my weekly Wednesday "Did You Know?" blog entries. In these entries I'm hoping to acquaint you all with some of the merchants we work with that you might otherwise overlook.

The first such merchant to be featured is Andreasinc. Based out of Florida, they have an interesting catalog with one of the most unique selections of items I've seen put together in one place. As a musician, I am most interested in their broad selection of ethnic musical instruments, ranging from the harmonium to the bagpipes. However, in addition to the choices in musical instruments and ProAudio, the site also has a number of collectibles, home goods, and even a broad selection of Martial Arts equipment. I think it's safe to say that this may be the only website out there on which you can buy a professional-quality Sitar and also an un-sharpened Kitana to hide inside of the Sitar case.

Either way, it is a fascinating site with a number of great deals, and when you use your Ebates account, you get 5% back.

In my first few days here at Ebates I've been trying to figure out exactly what the role of the blog is in relation to the site, and after discussing the question with a number of my co-workers, I realize there is no set in stone answer.  So I figured the best thing I could possibly do is to turn to you, the readers of this blog, to find out what you are looking for from this blog.  For all the stats I am able to pull up about web traffic and site referrals, it is your opinion that I want to hear, since that's what I am really here for; to help make your experience both on our site and with this blog as positive as I can.

So I turn to you, readers and subscribers, to answer any of the following questions that will hopefully better help me to cater the blog to your needs.

1) How often do you visit the Ebates shopping blog? (daily, weekly?)

2) What are you looking for when you log onto our blog?  (new deals, recommended products, site information?)

3) What sort of products do you look for most? (fashion, electronics, accessories, etc.)

4) Are you more interested in finding out about deals on your favorite sites, or would you prefer to be introduced to new sites and products?

5) Are you aware of our Blogroll?  (If not, scroll down and look to the left of this page)  Have you visited any of the blogs that we provide links to?

Thanks so much, everyone!  Just leave your answers, if you want, as a comment.  I'll be back this afternoon to give you all you ever wanted to know about a merchant site you probably never knew existed.

If you’re like me, you need a little pick-me-up every now and then, and that’s just what we’re trying to help you get here at Ebates. As I watched my coffee slowly drip down into my cup this morning, fearing I was going to miss the train to the office, I thought to myself “There must be a better way to make coffee while I'm half asleep and running late.” Being a night owl, those rough-and-tumble hours before noon are always difficult, and I hate facing them without a cup of joe, yet I hate even more the idea of waking up earlier to get that first installment of caffeine for the day.

I realize that there are coffee makers that can be set the night before so that you will wake up to a freshly-brewed cup of coffee, but it seems like such a waste to go through the process of setting up a paper filter and cleaning everything out for just one cup as I’m rushing out the door. So, after a little research, I am going to share my discovery with you all: the Keurig K-cups coffee system. Unlike those “coffee pods” that are popular in single-cup brewing, K-cups are all vacuum sealed to lock in both freshness and the coffee’s natural oils that can be left behind if ground beans are exposed to the elements. For those of you with more brand loyalty, they also offer the “my K-cup” brewer for other commercially available coffees, which incorporate the same system, except with standard supermarket or coffee shop coffees not sold through Keurig. All sorts of different K-cup brewers, pods, and accessories can be found at CoffeeForLess.com.

If you live in California or Washington, you know by now that as of July 1st, 2008, it's against the law to talk on your cell phone while driving. So for millions of people, a hands free device is no longer just a cool multi-color, ear piece accessory, but a must if you like talking on your cell phone while in your car.

Unfortunately, it might be a daunting task to find the right Bluetooth device with so many options available out there. Fortunately, there's one device that not only received rave reviews by tech gurus, but it's also affordable while maintaining a great fashion taste.. The Aliph Jawbone ups the ante on sound quality with some nifty noise canceling and voice enhancement technologies that improves the overall hands-free experience.

What's best is that you can find right now on sale at Tigerdirect for only $79.99. You save $20 plus get 3% Cash Back from Ebates.
