This past weekend I made the official switch to cooler weather wear and in the process discovered I'm in desperate need of pants. As stated several if not hundreds of times before, I have a tendency to purchase tops, completely neglecting my lower half in the process.
Without delving deep into the psyche of a shopper I think my penchant for buying tops stems from any one of the following reasons; tops are more exciting to the eye than pants, they cure "fat" days, and they don't require scrutiny of my lower half - something every woman tries to avoid. Unable to avoid this issue anymore I've mapped out my path to pantalones salvation.
The Flared Jean.
Pros: Flattering to derriere and hips, making a huge comeback.
Cons: Could make a huge retreat, to the back of my closet.
This pair by 7 For All Mankind does go with my assortment of hippie/peasant tops and I'm quite certain my legs are in desperate need of a breather after years of skin tight denim. Find them at Saks Fifth Avenue.
The Slim Cargo.
Pros: Slim, sexy, and versatile.
Cons: Possible fleeting trend.
Seen everywhere these pants could possibly be the piece that goes with every top I own. I've got the perfect suede booties to wear these with and they're a perfect match with my assortment of cashmere sweaters. Right now these are on sale for $55 at J.Crew.
The Black Jean.
Pros: Slimming, dressier option than standard denim.
Cons: There really are no cons, black jeans are a must.
To say my black jeans have seen better days is a huge understatement as they can no longer be considered black. Despite the great care I've taken to preserve their color, fading is a part of life and after 3 years it's time to move on.These cigarette jeans from Shopbop are just the thing I need; they're dark, slim, and with no frills. I'm sure I don't need to mention they'll go with everything and if left out of the dryer and washed with a detergent made for darks, I'm sure they'll last me the next three years.
