- Schedule with your friends to have fun playdates throughout the summer - If you or your friends have a trampoline, pool and even a swingset it can be a fun way for the kids to get together and play with your family's summer fun toys while the adults enjoy some time of relaxing as well.
Also, consider summertime a great time to educate your children on the topic of finances and complete the family financial focus worksheet together and learn about the family's budgeting. It can be a good time to get them involved with couponing too! They can learn everything from cutting and counting (for the younger kids) and organizing in groups and categories (for the older kids). There are so many more skills even such as addition/subtraction/fractions/multiplication practice and the challenge of getting as much as they can with the family's grocery budget on items your family would eat (obviously for the older kids on this one!) while at the same time build those life application skills from preschoolers all the way through high school! Plus you will enjoy the help from coupon cutting to grocery shopping trip planning and implementing!
Enjoy these ways to play, learn and have fun over these summer months!

Keeping my house from being overrun by paper is a daily battle. Each day a deluge of permission slips, artwork, catalogs, magazines, and homework comes flooding in. After eight years and three kids, I can successfully say I've developed a system to keep the clutter contained. Here are a few of my tips on how to reclaim your home.
My kitchen is my command center. Like most moms, I'm the official COO (Chief Operating Officer) of my family, and I need to know everything that's going on with all five members. To keep on top of schedules, shopping lists, and other important info, I use a chalkboard. Easy to clean, I created the one to the left with paint.
Chalkboard and/or magnetic chalkboard paint is available at Home Depot. To hide rough edges, you can purchase a kit that includes a frame, or use removable chalkboard wall decals.
As a mom, I cherish every scribble and squiggle that my kids draw, but if I kept each masterpiece my home would soon be overrun with construction paper and littered with sparkles. Not wanting to discourage my kid's love for art, I purchased several shadowbox frames. Each of my three kids selects their favorite pieces which are then hung in our rotating "gallery". I purchased my frames from Target, and they work better than regular frames because they can accommodate three-dimensional art. Be sure to select frames that are large enough and easy enough to open so you can constantly swap out the contents as new projects come home.
When it comes to keeping these items for years to come, I like to photograph and save them to a digital photobook from Shutterfly. As an added bonus, you can easily make duplicate books with just one click and send a copy to the grandparents. They're easy and fabuLESS holiday presents, plus you can have them shipped directly, too!

Being a fanatical reader, I'm one of those old-fashioned types who believes that the book is pretty much always better. That's why the kid in me is so up on the idea of Glamma Toys. Right now their featured products are all various shapes and sizes of plush characters from the movies, puppets of the characters, or packages including the stuffed characters along with a copy of the book itself. So, in other words, anyone who wants to can play director and make their own home production to see how they stack up against Jonze, who is somewhat of a cinematic hipster wunderkind.
Want to save money on these great products? Then buy before Halloween and use the coupon code EBATES10 - it's our exclusive offer to get an extra 10% off your purchase. Plus, remember, when you shop through Ebates, you will also get 3.5% Cash Back at Glamma.

If you want to ingratiate yourself to me, give me free shipping. It's just the best. Granted, 3.0% Cash Back isn't too bad either, thanks to Ebates.
So, once they hooked me with free shipping, I looked around and realized something else: their commitment to design and a good customer experience doesn't stop at their website: their products look both comfortable and well-made, offering a great range of clothing options for kids from newborns to twelve year olds. Since I only deal with the little ones vicariously through friends and their kiddies, I don't have the critical eye that most parents do, but I will tell you this much: I would happily buy any of these outfits or items for my friends' kids in a heartbeat. Or, if I were a kid, I'd want to wear these clothes.

It seems that with coupon code UNIFORM, you can get free shipping on your $50 school uniform purchase at macys. Being one of those young chaps who grew up in grey corduroy and a blue cardigan, moving on to khakis and polos in high school, if there was one thing I dreaded every summer, it was the purchase of new uniform clothes. For a person who loves jeans and t-shirts, I hated the trip to the uniform shop in July, cramming myself back into those "built to last" pants, and having my mom check if the seat was roomy enough. Plus there was the ancient cursed term "husky" that I had to hear every summer...
But I digress. My main point is, if you have a family member who needs uniform clothing for school, use coupon code UNIFORM to get free shipping on the latest back to school (required) styles of $50 or more. And earn 3% Cash Back with your Ebates account!

The home's own anti-graffiti task force, every mom is trained to reject drawing on walls. It's simple - just go to the Wild Planet Toy Store, pick out a bunch of stuff that you wish had been around when you were a kid, then after checkout, enter EBATES in the Coupon Code field on the payment screen.
Click "Redeem It" and you'll receive 3% off the price of your purchase. This 3% discount is offered in addition to the 3% cash back you'll get in your Ebates big fat check.
Extra bonus: the discounts count toward the purchase of bundles, including those that are already discounted up to 15%. The only thing you can't use the additional discount for is the purchase of gift certificates (but you probably knew that already).
For those with toy buying needs beyond Easter, my buddy said he'd extend the discount and honor the code for all purchases made between now and (including) April 30, 2009. So you can stock up on birthday presents too!
What I like best about the Wild Planet Toy Store is that they carry the complete line of Wild Planet toys, so you can get everything at one place, which increases your savings on shipping. (In case you're wondering, I don't work for the Toy Store, I work for the company that makes the toys - a totally separate group of people.)

I always like to give gifts that reflect my own personal beliefs, like going natural. For years I've been a firm believer of using natural products, and think this is especially important for babies. Many lotions, soaps, and other skin care products contain harsh chemicals such as synthetic dyes and perfumes. These can cause irritation, rashes, even allergic reactions. California Baby is an all natural skin care line that includes bubble baths, shampoos, even sunscreens, all made for the most sensitive of skin. With several people to buy for costs can add up quick. Good thing with Babies R Us Coupons, I'll save $2 on any three skin care products, including the entire California Baby line. A great discount always makes me feel good, especially when it benefits others. Thanks Ebates!

It's for that very reason that I am bringing Wild Planet Toys to your attention. While you might just skim on by it as "just another toy store," a little examination shows that it is much more than that. They have a vast array of creative gift ideas for the clever and curious, and a number of toys that will be just as coveted by the adults in your family as by the children.
Among their great toys is the game Hyper Dash, which was recently the #1 selling toy on a site which I will not mention except to say that it has a connection to a certain area of rainforest in South America. It may say that the game is intended for ages six and up, but trust me when I say that "and up" knows no limits. It can be played as a table-top game, or with great distances, and between you and me, after a couple of cocktails, this game gets very challenging.
Another must-have toy this year is a pair of Night Goggles. There are all types in all price ranges at the moment, but few are in the sub-$20 range. This pair sold by Wild Planet is currently on sale for $19.95, and have received rave reviews from a number of users. I hope that these are strictly used by kids, and not for more taboo voyeuristic pursuits, but hey, I can't tell you how to use your present!
Finally, one for the girls is the always-popular Water Babies. Just how popular are these cuddly little babies? They are the second best selling doll ever behind a lovely young blonde named Barbie. So if you want to nurture some maternal instinct in your little girl with a doll that doesn't look like she just stepped off the runway, this is a perfect gift. They even come in a wide ethnic range as well as a variety of ages for the babies themselves.
Also, just as a note of social conscience, I am also a huge proponent of toy donation programs. So if you are out there clicking around and shopping, please take your time to shop at any toy site, Ebates merchant or not, and pick up a toy or two to donate to those who are less fortunate, because I can't think of anything sadder than a child with nothing to open on Christmas.

So last week when I wrote about GoGoods.com, I let you in a bit on my protocol for the selection of sites to be featured in this segment. I also made a relatively important statement -- that I generally tend to warm up to the merchants I feature. This week, I just have to mention this site because I find it mildly ridiculous, but it might appeal to some of you folks with smaller children. I fully acknowledge that being a completely unattached and childless male in my late twenties, I tend to roll my eyes at sentimental child-centric products, but this one might just go another step.
As is evident from even the most cursory glance at MyTwinn.com, they make dolls to exact specifications to resemble your daughter, hence the "twin" part of the site. I will say, I can kind of understand this. It would definitely make a lasting memory for both children and parents for years to come. Their process is really quite precise, and they even request a picture of your child to make sure that the doll's look is as close as possible to the real-life child. I applaud them for that, and I think in that area of their business, they do a very good job. They also do a good job of keeping the price down - each of these are hand-crafted customized dolls with specific skin tones and an array of hair colors that cost about $150.
Here is where I have issues: they sell matching clothes. They have crossed the border from "find doll clothes to put on the doll that resemble your child's clothes" to the bizarre territory of "buy clothes for your child to match her doll's clothes. Yes, it makes for a great photo op, and it is a great way to offer a chance for return shoppers to come back and update the look, at least as far as clothing is concerned.
So, whether you love them or you hate them, give it a look. If like me, you roll your eyes at this site, go through and have a laugh. Or, if you have the sentimentality that I lack, take a gander - it looks like a good quality product for the price you pay, and you do get 4% cash back on any and all products purchased from them, whether it be a doll or a matching outfit.

While stopped at a red light last week, I witnessed roughly five hundred (not an exaggeration) children crossing the street in what must have been a school field trip. There I was sitting for nearly five minutes, staring blankly at the mass of uniforms and backpacks when the question popped into my head: What is going on with the youth of today? Kids don't even look like kids, they look like, they look like miniature adults. First there was the nine year old on her cellphone, followed by two boys playing on their mini computers. What does a nine year old need a cell phone for? Is she planning today's meeting in the schoolyard? Were the boys checking their outlook mail? Don't they get what it means to be a kid? You know, imagination?
Whatever happened to bringing dolls to school, or putting gum in each other's hair? You know.. the good old days? Am I even old enough to say "the good old days"? The days before computers ruled our lives, and when playtime consisted of running around outside. I used to spend hours making fantasy worlds with only a stick or a piece of paper, and when the temperature dropped I would pretend I was home on the range, building my homestead with Lincoln Logs. This set that I happily found at KB Toys is only $19.99, and it even comes with a horse-drawn wagon, not originally available found in the older version. While the famous wooden building "logs" have seen an upgrade, (window frames, one-piece roof) they remain the same memorable toy from my youth. KB Toys has four different sets to choose from, so if you're looking for a gift that will spark a child mind instead of numbing it, may I suggest this classic?

I am looking for a cool diaper bag for my husband. One that definitely doesn’t look like a ‘man purse’, but maybe a backpack or something that would be convenient for him to carry around when he has the baby. Any brands or types of bags that you can suggest?
Anna: We went through a ton of diaper bags for my husband and he finally ended up with a backpack-style. It was the most convenient for him and it was in “manly” colors so he never felt uncomfortable carrying it around. It also had insulated pockets for milk, snacks, etc. so he never had to carry anything extra baggage around.
Larry: Any backpack will work.
Bryan: I really like backpacks. Victorinox is a brand of backpacks that I think are nice but if you like the messenger type I would look at Timbuck2 or Define. A diaper bag for a man usually doesn’t have to hold as much as what, say, my wife would use.
Clearly, backpacks are the top pick among Ebates staffers. Stores like Timbuk2, REI, eBags and ParagonSports carry the most rugged, durable backpacks on the market, and of course, you can earn Cash Back through Ebates. If you need a coupon for your backpack purchase on Ebates and can't find one on our Coupons and Specials page, be sure to request one at our Coupons on Demand page in the blog.
What do you think is the best bag for a baby-totin' dad?
April 11, 2007
Invest in a good stroller! Imagine yourself, by yourself, walking to the car from the mall with a (#$* load of shopping bags, a diaper bag, a purse, a stroller and a crying baby. (This scenario is very close to home). The last thing you want to worry about is lugging a heavy stroller into the trunk of your car! Don’t go for the cheapest stroller out there… remember, this is an investment that should last you a few years. I love my Peg Perego Pliko P3, but my advice is to test drive some to find one that’s right for you. Push some around to see how smooth they are, see how easily you can open and close them with one hand, and see how light it is. Also look for compatibility with your car seat, a full-reclining chair and a 5-point safety harness.
2. Infant Car Seat
A lot of parents don’t bother with the infant car seat because it doesn’t last very long and you can use a convertible seat from birth. Our son outgrew his after only 4 months, but I highly recommend splurging on one anyways! When the baby’s asleep, you can move him/her from the car straight to the stroller or carry him/her around without waking him. I recommend the Peg Perego Primo Viaggio, but again, shop around to find the right one for you.
I personally think a changing table is a waste of money because it only lasts a couple of years and then it just turns into an ugly piece of furniture. The positive is it’s a lifesaver on your back. My solution? Purchase a nice dresser and create your own changing table! Find one that’s long enough to hold a changing pad and a basket with diapers, wipes and toiletries on the end. If you have a son and run into “accidental squirts”, it’ll be a breeze to clean up (as opposed to changing the baby on the bed and having to wash sheets, etc.). Now that my son doesn’t need a changing station anymore, I put frames and his books on the top of the dresser.
Great for breastfeeding, tummy time and a neck pillow for you!
No need to purchase refills. This diaper disposal system works with any type of bags!

Sam, Design Director at Ebates, tells Hollie his top three baby must-haves:
1. Ergo Baby Carrier
We’ve tried several different baby carriers and this one seems to be the most versatile and comfortable for both Margot (she usually falls asleep within a few minutes of getting into it) and us parents. This carrier mimics the natural way you’d hold a baby close to your body - some of the other brands like the Bjorn (which we have as well) support a baby from the crotch, and can put stress on the baby’s spine. It’s a little bit complicated at first (it comes with an instructional DVD!), but once you get the hang of all of the straps and do-dads it’s pretty easy. A major plus is that it has several pockets to keep pacifiers, wallet, etc. in, and a hood for rainy days or for shade from the sun.
This comes in the “Original” version and the “Mini” version – we have the original version, but if I had to do it again I’d get the mini for it’s smaller size (by the time your baby outgrows the mini they’ll be ready for a real crib or bed anyway). The only advantages that the larger size has is that it can “convert” into a changing table or “play yard”, but in reality once you get this thing set up and put together you’re not gonna want to rearrange it again (very hard to put it together, and not very clear instructions!). The benefit of a co-sleeper is that your baby is right there next to you in bed, making late night feedings much easier (not to mention being more easily able to calm fussiness and give her a pacifier). And it’s great to bring her into our bed in the mornings as we all wake up together – a great way to start the day!
3. Tiny Love (Symphony-in-Motion) Mobile & Gymini
These seemed to be Margot’s favorite toys from the get-go, and after four and a half months they still keep her entertained and engaged. She loves the mobile and the (unfortunately for us parents) cheesy digital classical music that it plays (I now have the three “tunes” that it plays permanently burned into my brain). The Gymini is a play mat with arching struts for small toys to hang on (over the babies head). She took to it right away – again, there’s a hanging flower-pillow which plays a digital tune that she particularly loves (not great for parental sanity though).
Honorable Mention: Grembo Sleep Sack
Once you’re through with the swaddling (after 3 months or so), this is a great way to keep a baby warm at night with a comfy cover that doesn’t fall off. Plus it’s really easy to get them in-and-out of (you’ll appreciate that after 3 month of swaddling…).

Wilma (Engineer): Motherhood Maternity is your best bet.
Anna (Product Manager): My theory is to never spend too much on maternity clothes because you grow out of them so quickly! Jeans in the first trimester may not last you through the end. With that said, I’ve always thought Gap jeans are comfortable, stylish and affordable!
Cath (V.P. of Finance): I love the Citizens of Humanity maternity jeans – they fit just like regular jeans and are extremely comfortable. I also love the way the Gap maternity jeans fit for a fraction of the cost! Mid or demi panel, in my opinion, are the best fit throughout the entire pregnancy.
Citizens of Humanity maternity jeans are available at Shopbop, Neiman Marcus and Nordstrom starting at around $175. For the more budget conscious moms-to-be, Gap maternity jeans are no more than $68. In fact, they have some pairs on sale for $29.99 or less! And of course, you can earn Cash Back at all of these stores.
Readers, where do you think Hollie should buy maternity jeans?

Our Design Director, Sam, has this suggestion for Hollie:
I don’t think my wife used any kind of special yoga equipment during her pregnancy (but she did continue to do yoga even up to the day she went into labor!). The one special piece of exercise equipment we did get was an exercise ball (sometimes called a birth ball). This item actually proved invaluable to us – you can use it for pregnancy exercises, and for labor training (for actual labor too). The ball really came in handy for us though, after our daughter was born – holding her while “bouncing” on the ball was the ONLY sure method of calming her down and stopping her crying during the first month. Worked every time – and still mostly does today after 3 months.
Readers, what do you think is the number one way to stay fit during and after pregnancy?

This week, our momma-to-be explores the softer side of impending motherhood. Readers, do you think body pillows are necessary for the comfort and health of an expecting mom?
Anna (Product Manager): The pregnancy wedge is the way to go! I used it to comfortably support my belly while lying on my left side (best position for the baby). My husband would then stuff pillows behind me and basically tuck me in every night, because I too am a back sleeper and would often roll onto my back at night. With our “technique”, I basically couldn’t move so it was the perfect solution!
Wilma (Engineer): No, I did not use any body pillow to sleep on my side. If I used one at all, I used a regular standard sized pillow.
Ray (Director of Operations): You need a queen sized bed or bigger for this, though the pillow does help quite a bit, and it's not especially in the way if the bed is big enough.
Sam (Design Director):My wife used something called the “Snoogle”, and she loved it! The Snoogle extends to the length of the body from a “coil” – you can also use it in several different positions as well. Towards the end of her pregnancy my wife had to augment the Snoogle with a normal pillow under the belly, and this set-up seemed to work pretty well. I must admit I was a little jealous of the Snoogle at first, but then I got used to its presence, and I actually hi-jacked it a few times 'cuz it’s very comfy!
Ready to get your hands on a pregnancy pillow or wedge? Look no further than Ebates! You can find a Mini Snoogle starting at $32.39 with 4% Cash Back at Target. For the full-size Snoogle, get the lowest price at Drugstore.com. You'll pay just $46.99 and earn 6% Cash Back! The pregnancy wedge is an even more affordable option. Anna recommends a wedge shaped like this one from Best Rest. She says that the vertical piece prevents mom from rolling onto her back, which can restrict blood flow and oxygen to the baby. At just $24.99 with 4% Cash Back, it's a great deal.

This week, our resident first time mommy-to-be ponders a new question. Our staffers seem to have mixed feelings about this topic. Readers, what are your thoughts?
Has anyone ever seen or used a pregnancy journal for both the mom-to-be and the dad-to-be to do together? You cant go to any bookstore or pregnancy store without finding a gazillion for moms-to-be, but nearly none for the dads-to-be. I would love for my husband to be able to be more involved with the pregnancy, and everything that is going on with me and the bambino, any suggestions? Has anyone heard of a pregnancy journal for parents-to-be?
Larry (Engineer): My wife had a week-by-week development book, (i.e. in Week x the heart starts beating.) It was very neat, but it wasn't precisely a journal or calendar.
Sam (Design Director): We never used an interactive pregnancy journal or calendar (although I think this idea sounds pretty cool).
Wilma (Engineer): I would just use a normal journal for this and keep a log of your thoughts and feeling when you were pregnant. For example, when did you feel the first flutter, kicks, etc..
Cath (V.P. of Finance): Don't know; I did not use one during my first pregnancy.
Anna (Product Manager): My sister bought me a journal as soon as she found out I was pregnant. I think she bought it at Papyrus, but you can get one at any baby or book store. It wasn’t for us as a couple, but more for Mom to track all her thoughts and emotions. It’s definitely a good investment! I can look back on my pregnancy experience and relive every joyful moment of it…or at least the parts I wrote down!
Whether you choose a plain journal or one designed just for parents-to-be, Ebates has options for any budget. You can even buy a pregnancy journal meant for moms and let dad write in it, too! Try this one from Wal-Mart for just $11.74, or see all pregnancy journals available through Ebates.
Sam also recommends Shutterfly's memory books. They start at about $43.99 and are great for documenting your pregnancy and baby's frst year in photos.

My friend Hollie is a member of the Ebates sales team, a proud southern belle, and most importantly, a newly expectant mother! She, like all new parents, wants nothing more than to keep her baby happy and healthy (while attempting to maintain her own sanity, of course).
As a new mom, Hollie finds herself bombarded with baby buzz left and right: bathroom-stall baby harnesses, Zaky pillows, musical pacifiers...does it ever end? Let's help Hollie figure out what she'll really need, and what's better left on the store shelf!
On Wednesdays, I'll be featuring Hollie's questions on all things baby: maternity gear, household items, exercise tips and more. A group of our staffers with young children will answer her questions, and of course we'd love to hear feedback from YOU!
Hollie's Question of the Week:
I keep reading about prenatal listeners, the small recorders that allow you to listen to your baby's heartbeat, kicking and even hiccups! It sounds pretty cool, but I'm not sure if it's worth the the $19.99. Would headphones do the same thing?
Larry (Engineer): Never used them. How about a stethoscope?
Wilma (Engineer): Yes, I used one of those prenatal heartbeat listeners and a headphone for my 2nd pregnancy. I even used a Dr.'s stethoscope to listen to the baby's heartbeat. Don't bother buying it as it's a waste of money. You can hardly hear anything and you really need to be in quiet place, no distractions, etc. to hear anything. If you want really want to record your baby's heartbeat, bring a tape recorder to every prenatal appt.
Anna (Product Manager): Yes, we bought one (suckers!) and for us, it was a waste of money. I had friends who it worked for (same exact listener), but we couldn't really distinguish the baby's sounds from mom's indigestion! It would probably have been more effective later in the pregnancy, but by that time, we had given up using it!
Sam (Design Director):We didn't use a listener (again, I didn't even know they existed). It WAS a lot of fun to hear the heartbeat during visits to the doctor though.
Cath (V.P. of Finance): I did and I love mine, especially with the first pregnancy when everything was so new. Listening to my baby's heartbeat whenever I wanted to was super important to me and my husband! :-) Headphones would not work!

A few weeks ago, I posted about a condition now known as "Wii Elbow". Gamers more accustomed to
lazing on the couch were a little surprised by the exertion (seemingly) required to play a game of Wii Sports. I say seemingly because I find the Wiimote responds better to quick sharp motions of the wrist, rather than broad, sweeping arm movements.
Ebates staffer Jen pointed me toward something called the Wii Sports Experiment. In a rather Super Size Me fashion, blogger Mickey Delorenzo decided to test the fitness benefits of playing Wii. He restricted all forms of exercise from his regimen, played Wii Sports for 30 minutes per day for 6 weeks, and recorded the results. Amazingly, he lost 9 pounds, decreased his body fat percent by 2%, and lost 3.5 inches from his waist. Click here to read his story!
Mickey put together this video of his "training"...get ready to get pumped!

For some, it's a Bar Mitzvah. For others, their high school graduation. For those who grow up in Orange County, California, the crowning rite of passage is...working at Disneyland.
I was a cast member for three
long months at the age of 17. I often get asked if I ever saw Mickey shuffling around backstage, taking deep drags on a Marlboro Red, novelty-sized plastic head clasped half-heartedly under his arm.
The answer is no, but I did glimpse dozens of Piglet suits drooping sadly on their hangers waiting to be washed. The whimsy melted away at that moment; the costumes department looked more like a slaughterhouse than The Hundred Acre Woods!
All kidding aside, Ebates is giving Double Cash Back at DisneyShopping.com today only! Get 8% Cash Back on cool Disney stuff like:
-Rhinestone Mouse Ears (Bling Bling! Imagine the Cash Back!)
-An Alice in Wonderland Divine Hoodie
-Art Deco style Steppin' Out Mickey Watch
-A cuddly Nala Bean Bag!
The possiblities are endless. Hey, go for the piglet costume if you want. I was just kidding about the whole slaughterhouse thing.
I can't believe I just used the word "slaughterhouse" three times in a blog about Disney.

What's more overwhelming than having a new baby? Try walking into a baby store and trying to decide which products you'll need to keep your baby happy (and you, sane). As a new mom, you don’t need all the bells and whistles… just the necessities. So don’t bother with the Baby Keeper (no matter how tempting it may be at times) and leave the Zaky Infant Pillow at the store because, frankly, it’s just plain odd. Stick with the basics and you’ll get through the first few months with some of your sanity left.
Waterproof Mattress Pads – Your baby is bound to have a leaky diaper or two (or twelve) so make sure your mattress is protected! Have a couple pads handy for quick changes in the middle of the night.
Well-fitting Crib Sheets – Use sheets made specifically for cribs and make sure they fit tightly and securely around the mattress. Buy a few sheets in case you need to switch them out in a hurry.
Changing Pad with safety strap – No need to spend hundreds of dollars on a changing table, use a changing pad and the top of a dresser to create your own!
Diaper Pail – Try a simple version that lets you use your own plastic bags. You won’t have to buy refills and you can put recycled plastic grocery bags to good use.
Plastic Bathtub – If you have a large kitchen sink, look for a tub that fits inside. It sounds odd, but your back will thank you later.
Stroller Travel System – Save money on the stroller, car seat and car seat base by purchasing them as a set. Just attach the car seat to the stroller and you’ll never have to wake the sleeping baby.
Diaper Bag – Bring a change of baby clothes, bibs, diapers, wipes, a changing pad and an extra shirt for you, because you know, spit happens.
Boppy Pillow – Use it to support your baby while breastfeeding, to hold up the baby during tummy time or to rest your sleepy head when you get a chance to nap!
Layette – As tempting as it is to buy the cutest dresses and track suits, stick with the basics for the first few months. Look for one-piece outfits, footed pajamas, cotton shirts, socks, booties, caps, bibs and mittens that are easy to get on and off.
Receiving Blankets – For swaddling and for keeping your baby warm.

True, it's been years since I've carved a pumpkin, but when did pumpkin carving kits become so sophisticated? Isn't there a kind of stoic elegance in the 'three triangles and a mouth' model I specialized in as a child?
If you've been looking to add an air of royalty to your jack-o-lantern's visage, check out the Disney Princess Carving Kit. The lowest price can be found at eToys.com and KBToys.com, who both sell it for $10.99 with 3% Cash Back at Ebates. There's also a Pirates of the Caribbean Carving Kit. Come on, who wouldn't want Johnny Depp's face glowing on their front porch during the chilly autumn nights? Anyone?
For advanced pumpkin carvers, the Dremel Pumpkin Carving Kit is available at Hechinger.com or Home Depot for $19.99. If, to you, 3-D pumpkin carving is akin to sculpting the next Sphinx, try the basic carving kit from Spirit. At $5.99 with 7% Cash Back from Ebates, you really can't go wrong.
Finally, because I find this hilarious, here is a pattern from which you can carve a jack-o-lantern resembling Bob Marley:
Looks like you've got some decisions to make before October 31st. Princess Jasmine? Three triangles and a mouth? A three dimensional representation of the Mona Lisa?
Thanks to fabulousfoods.com for the Bob Marley image!

Remember the Tickle-Me-Elmo craze of 1996? Well, this time, you can stow your brass knuckles.
Elmo T.M.X, the tenth anniversary edition of Tickle-Me-Elmo, was just released on Monday, and, according to CNN, "Elmo fans should grab the new toy while they can, because industry analysts are already anticipating a shortage of Elmo T.M.X. over the holiday shopping season".
As amusing as it may be to imagine thousands of surly soccer moms pillaging the local Wal-Mart, why not give peace a chance? Buy your Elmo T.M.X now, and you'll still have enough teeth to fully enjoy your holiday desserts.
Where can you buy Elmo T.M.X? Well, Target still has them in stock, but you have to buy IN-STORE. So hurry! (Or sign up for boxing lessons. You'll be glad you did.)
Check out Elmo T.M.X's "International Debut" on Good Morning America:
Have any of you gotten your hands on Elmo T.M.X?

I'm almost too embarassed to write about this- almost. Having left the jungle gym behind years ago in favor of pilates classes and Six Feet Under marathons, I thought my days of playing Nintendo were long gone.
Boy, was I ever wrong. I'd like you to meet the Nintendo DS Lite:
Isn't it cute? It's sleek and sexy with an iPod-glossy white finish (or pink...or onyx). With the stylus that comes included, It has the ambience of a personal organizer with all the fun of smashing Goombas and diffusing Bob-ombs (which is a fancy way of saying you can get away with playing Super Mario Bros. on your subway commute even if you're wayyyy out of puberty).
This is the first Nintendo game system with a touch-screen and, get this: the microphone responds to your breathing. You can blow up balloons and make the characters float just by blowing into the mic!
Now, I understand how someone may not be interested in the DS Lite if they didn't grow up with the Super Mario Bros. series. Fair enough. But it's never too late to learn the joy of the ever-popular Madden '07.
Is it weird that I use these terms so casually? It's ok- you can be honest with me.
August 8, 2006
Yes, it's August- those last precious weeks of cavorting with friends, staying up late and going to the beach. Come September, it'll be the red ink on that first history exam that'll require a pair of sunglasses!
Why not look at the bright side? Back-to-School also means Back-to-School shopping, a welcome respite when you're about to dive into the books rather than the pool.
Lets take a quick look at some of the essentials you'll need for a proper scholastic debut, whether you're shopping for yourself or the kids:
- A great bag: eBags and Ebates have teamed up to give you $10 off on any backpack purchase of $45 or more! They've got LiveWire bags that have an iPod holder, laptop packs, ultralight bags, as long as it's a backpack, you get a discount!
- A new computer: For students, a great option is the Compaq Presario V2000Z. At $399.99 after a mail in rebate, it's not a huge investment and is a great machine for word-processing and web browsing.
- New threads: For great Back-to-School bargains for the girls, try Delia*s or Alloy. Both offer free shipping fororders of $75 or more. For guys and girls, another good pick is Old Navy.com. They have a flat $5 shipping rate and a ton of brand new styles in stock!
- Books: Wal-Mart is doing 97 cent shipping on all books! It doesn't get much cheaper than that. Barnes and Noble is having a summer clearance with some titles up to 80% off!

Growing up, your mother probably told you, "If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all".
Of course it's true; you shouldn't curse, would never gossip, and you certainly can't call other people names!
I saw Uglydolls for the first time at Kid Robot in San Francisco, and fell in love! Sure, Barbies have computers, euro-hip rides and luminous locks , but do they have tentacles, wedge-shaped heads or chest hair? I think not!
Maybe you're wondering, "Why on Earth would I want a doll with chest hair?" The question you should be asking is "Why wouldn't I?".
Come on, people! Uglydolls are so cute you'll want to buy the whole family. Plush, unique and adorable, they're appealing to everyone: kids, adults, your relative with the creepy doll collection in her living room... well, maybe not her. Each Uglydoll has its very own story: a name, likes and dislikes, a family history... How many Barbies can say that?
