mad-men-season-4The season four premiere date for the acclaimed drama Mad Men has been a bit hush hush since season three's jaw-dropping finale.  Fans have been anxiously waiting with tons of speculation on forums and blogs. On Monday, the date was finally announced along with a new promotional poster that has been bounced around the web. Until recently, I had never really seen a full episode despite the fact that I have heard so many great things about the show from devoted fans and critics alike. So a few weeks back I decided to bite the bullet and commit to watching season one through three before the new season begins. Luckily, I now know just how much time I have to complete my pre-season premiere catch-up . Being goal oriented, I have become very excited about my new after-hours task. I caught up with the first few episodes of season one through my trusty Netflix subscription. Signing-up will earn you $13 Cash Back from Ebates, which makes it one of the best deals we have on our site. I am a big fan of the service, especially when you are using it to catch up on television series. However, when you suddenly become obsessed with a television series (ok, you were all right!) and you a fiending for the next disk it is best to have a plan B.

That's where iTunes via Ebates comes to the rescue. Buying individual episodes out of moments of desperation can be quite costly. Luckily, there is 3.0% Cash Back to add a nice little buffer to episodes purchased through the store.

And when you realize that you have purchased almost the entire season through iTunes and your Netflix queue is backed up with a bunch of shows you want to see, you can purchase previous seasons at Deep Discount, where you will get up to 44% off retail and 2.5% Cash Back.

With just about a month away, I know I will be fully caught up for the Season Four premiere on July 25th, the real question is, should I just buy all the DVD's now?

If you already have the books but want a refresh yourself on the movies, look no further than Overstock.com where you can get movies, books and memorabilia all at low prices and cash back. Or rent the DVDs via Netflix through Ebates and get $13 Cash Back!

To outfit yourself in some vampire fashion, check out Nordstrom, where they have a complete mini-boutique of Twilight gear, including stylish tee shirts, hoodies, even dresses and a line of makeup and skincare. So you can get a little vampire glow going on without going overboard and earn 5.0% Cash Back. True-Blood-Season-3True Blood fans everywhere have been gearing up for the season 3 premiere and in anticipation of what looks to be their best season yet, I've thrown in a teaser courtesy of nymag. Now that you're salivating like a werewolf, it's time to plan what should be the most important party of the year: the True Blood premiere party! Below are some helpful reminders of what you'll need. Enjoy!

Decor
When hosting a True Blood party, theme must be kept in mind. Over doing the colors red, black, or anything "death" is a bit tacky so stay tasteful (but loyal) with a poster. The poster to the left is just one of nineteen available at HBO Store and is just $9.99. Besides Morning Cup Of Joe, I'm also a fan of "Please Do Not Feed The Shapeshifters" and "Missing Bill".

History
While owning memorabilia is the mark of a fan, knowing your True Blood history is equally important. Whether you need to brush up or you're wondering what all the fuss is about, get the facts with True Blood Season 1 and Season 2 from Barnes and Noble. Both seasons are available for just $35 each, plus you'll get 4.0% Cash Back

Tru Blood Drink SetBeverages
Of course no True Blood party would be complete without a Tru Blood Drink Set. It comes with four bottles of Tru Blood plus four glasses and a bottle opener. Just $59.99 for the set, you'll also receive 4.0% Cash Back at HBO Store. Being that this is a replica of the vampire drink, I advise you to drink it cold rather than 98.6. You'll find tasty drink combos on the side of the box like the fangbanger, death on the beach, and my favorite plasmapolitan. Get it? plasmapolitan? I love it!

See True Blood on June 13th, or get an earlier fix at HBO.com.

Lost-Season-FinaleTonight's Series Finale of Lost comes at at time where most fans have mixed emotions about the show. There is no question that this season, and perhaps even the last two seasons have been a let down to avid fans. Nonetheless, the end of the show is still sad and although I mock, curse and swear off watching it from time to time, I will miss having it around. There are a million theories out there about what may happen in tonight's ' Series Finale Event' ( shown in an unprecedented simulcast around the world so it will not to spoil the ending for anyone!).  You can catch a nice little collection theories here, courtesy of the Vulture Bloggers at New York Magazine and prepare yourself fully for what may happen to end the show this evening. If reading wacky theories about potential endings, symbolism and far-fetched meanings is not your ideal way to prepare for the event, then catch up on stuff you may have missed the conventional way and download full episodes via the iTunes where you will get 3.0% Cash Back from Ebates. Seriously, you will want the cash back when you are fervently downloading episodes in order to chain together clues to support some supposed ending sequence. I plan on watching The Event tonight and then going back to download some of my favorite or the most crucial episodes of the season. Surely, I will end up buying the entire thing before it comes out on DVD so I will also rack up be cash back.

Just over a week ago, Hollywood released a re-vamped take on the Nightmare on Elm Street franchise. It was pretty much a top-to-bottom change, as they have even brought in a new Freddy Krueger - Jackie Earle Hale, who most of you should recognize as "Rorschach" from last Summer's Watchmen movie.

Nightmare on Elm Street CollectionWhile the new movie is getting mixed reviews, its release has taken me back to the good old days of the Nightmare series. Granted, I am a little too young to remember the release of the original movie, but I can certainly remember the first time I saw it back in the early nineties. Since then, I've seen a handful of the franchise - always avoiding number two, and now that they are releasing a new installment without Robert Englund playing the iconic razor-gloved villain, I am getting a little nostalgic for those good old movies, campy as some of them may be. This nostalgia sent me to the good ol' internet, where I went on a quest to find a reasonably priced collection of Nightmare movies.

If you follow this blog, it should come as no surprise to you that I ended up at DeepDiscount.com, where I can't seem to stop finding great deals on DVDs, video games, music, books, and more! Once, there, I found the Nightmare on Elm Street Collection, which has eight full discs containing the entirety of the Robert Englund run as Freddy Krueger, from the original Nightmare all the way up to Freddy vs. Jason. You get the whole run and can see firsthand the transition from psychological slasher film to the campy, over-the-top, and self-referential later films. Oh, and of course you can hear Dokken perform their hit "Dream Warriors" in Nightmare on Elm Street 3. The cost of this wonderful trip down memory lane? Just $36.89 - or, roughly what I'd spend were I to go with someone to watch the new movie in the theaters. Plus, when I earn 2.5% Cash Back by shopping through Ebates, I'll have almost enough to buy myself a bag of microwave popcorn to sit with throughout the whole extravaganza. As always, you will also get free shipping on all your orders from DeepDiscount.com too!

Take a stroll down memory lane with your favorite flicks in our Movies & Music category!

Summer is full of things to look forward to; cookouts, warm-weather, summer fashion and of course, blockbuster movies! This year, there are many big movies set to be released that will surely draw huge crowds and big bucks. Among these big movies are a few highly anticipated sequels and the sequels of sequels, such as; Sex And The City 2, Twilight: Eclipse, Shrek Forever After and Toy Story 3 ( for a comprehensive list of all the most popular summer movies, click here). In the meantime, before these movies hit the big screen, you can catch up on their predecessors when you buy the DVD's through Overstock.com and get cash back and deals from Ebates sexandthecitydvdIt seems unnecessary to profess my love for the Sex And The City because I am into fashion, I am an avid television watcher and member of the female sex. But, as a true fan, I enjoyed the first movie, I feel obligated to see the second one, but I also believe it could never compare to the television version. That being said, I do plan on watching the movie on DVD before I go see the sequel in theaters. I can pick up the Sex And The City Movie for just $8.02 with 4.0% Cash Back. I can also shop for all the Shrek movies for just $38 for the set or less than $15 each. Find an array of sequels, prequels and Summer movie favorites at Overstock.com!

I'm notoriously bad at not watching TV shows when they air. It's kind of silly, since I only religiously watch like four shows, but still, no matter how I try, I can't seem to keep up on them, so I always have to find new ways to catch up on the shows I missed. Back in the good ol' days it was reruns, and I'd wait weeks at a time to catch the episode I missed. Then I finally ponied up and got a VCR and dealt with stacks upon stacks of tapes, all labeled with post-it notes. I still have yet to jump on the DVR bandwagon, mainly because I really prefer the chance to catch up on TV while on the go.

Apple iTunes CouponsThis means my new best friend is iTunes, who has entire libraries of shows, most of which are either $1.99 or $2.99 an episode, with entire seasons available as well. That means even if you can't find a re-run of your favorite show on any of the network websites or any of the most popular video hosting sites, you can still get them online without any hassle. Best of all, you can get 3.0% Cash Back on all your iTunes purchases, so you can get a little extra cash in your pocket just by watching your favorite TV shows and using Ebates!

After spending a little time searching around the store, I am really impressed with some of the more obscure shows that they offer; there are some choice anime titles that really appeal to the geek in me, the entire first season of the A-Team for when I'm feeling nostalgic, and favorites like Deadliest Catch for pretty much any other time I ever want to watch an TV episode and be completely hooked.

Find your favorite shows on iTunes!

Eugenia-Kim-for-TargetI've said it once and I'll say it again; not all designer collaborations are worthy of my dollar. Case in point Jean Paul Gaultier's collection currently selling at Target. I had the chance to see this line in person and although I was sadly disappointed, I'm well aware that each designer collaboration is different. As proven by the Jovovich-Hawk dress still hanging in my closet. Design disasters aside, I was overly excited when I read Eugenia Kim is doing a line for Target that hits stores today, April 18th.

Who is Eugenia Kim? Well to be frank she's the most popular milliner since Coco Chanel. This interview with hip business magazine Fast Company is a quick sum of her talents, the likes of which have attracted celebrity followers such as Jennifer Lopez and Cameron Diaz. Celebrity draw is not a reason to shop this collection. The unbeatable price however, is. Eugenia Kim hats typically sell for around $200, but her collection for Target is priced between $14.99-19.99. Factor in 3.0% Cash Back for being an Ebates member and you have successfully combined high fashion with low cost. Job well done!

True-BloodWith less than 2 months to go until the June 13th premiere of True Blood it's natural to be antsy, and dare I say going through withdrawals. Sure there's been re-runs, marathons, and other chances to watch my favorite show, but watching a single episode satisfies my craving like a single m&m satisfies a sweet tooth. Those who know me are well aware of the crazed mind set that washes over me each Sunday night, yet you may not believe my True Blood beginnings were less than enthusiastic. I was introduced to HBO's newest hit two episodes into the first season. After being told the plot line centered around vampires I quickly dismissed the show, yet found myself watching it just a few days later and was hooked from then on. Truth be told it took me a few episodes to really get "sucked" in, but the staying power of this show is one I've never experienced before. This is especially rare considering I've never been the type who tivo's shows, or someone who can't wait for (insert night) because of a television program. Well times have changed, and in order to present you the reader with the best True Blood advice, I've divided my advice into two groups: Newcomers and Fans.

Newcomers

For those new to True Blood or wondering what all the buzz is about, I implore you to go to HBO Store.com and buy Season 1 on dvd. If buying is too much of a commitment, you can also rent it on Netflix. Then, when you have become obsessed with the lives of the dead and non dead of Bon Temps, you can settle in for bigger treats in Season 2. Of course the only thing to accompany you're new found hobby is the equally drool worthy True Blood Season One Soundtrack. More folk than fantasy, the soundtrack alone will convince fencers to jump, and savvy shoppers will save over ten bucks when they buy the Season One Gift Set complete with season one on dvd, and soundtrack. Regardless of how you get started, you'll get 4.0% Cash Back at HBO Store and $13.00 Cash Back for signing up at Netflix.

True Blood DrinkFans

With no need to convince you of this show's awesomeness, my advice is geared toward making your True Blood Sunday's perfect. For starters you'll need the infamous True Blood Drink. Comprised of mandarin blood orange this drink is the necessary ingredient for your True Blood cocktails, which happen to be conveniently listed on the box. Perhaps more exciting than the tarty taste is the packaging; it's an exact replica of Bill's beloved drink. Besides Sookie of course! Also available for those not wanting a "Dead On The Beach" are Merlot's beer mugs. Sam himself would be use this mug, when he's not running around on all fours that is.

On a final thought, no fan should be without their True Blood clothing. After all, there's no better way to show your love for the show than having it emblazoned across your chest, so do like I've done and represent with Jason's Bon Temps Tee. The last time I wore my interests on a t-shirt it was 1994 and the shirt read "dookie", but just as I was proud to wear it then, I'm proud to sport my pride now.

lost logoEven if you have never watched the show Lost, you have likely crossed paths with a Lost Fan. We are, as a whole, opinionated, devoted and quite frankly, we have been put through a lot during the course of the show. Devoted fans such as myself and a few others around here at the office have some differences of opinion regarding how the show has developed over the years and how this the sixth and final season is progressing. With just a few episodes left, I am beginning to wonder how  and if anything will be wrapped up and I am worried that I may be left unsatisfied. I am not alone. Many fans seem to be sharing this same sentiment and the whole thing has me longing for a purer and simpler time in the Lost lifetime, the early days.

Believe it or not, I do not own any Lost episodes on DVD. This is partly because I know I would be sucked in to endless hours of watching and at this point I give up enough of my time just viewing on it television. However, as the end of the final season approaches, I am a bit nostalgic and I think I am ready to bite the bullet and give up a large portion of my weekend to re-watching my pals on the island from beginning to end. I will buy Lost Seasons 1-5 on DVD, earn cash back and get the best price when I shop at eBay through Ebates.

Find all the seasons on Blu-Ray for $159.98 and 3.0% Cash Back or just $122.95 for standard DVD both ship for free.

If you too are feeling nostalgic for a simpler time on Lost or if you would like to see what all the hype is about, pick up the first five seasons on DVD and get the best price, free shipping and earn cash back!

Glee Box SetOh man, I can't wait. I really can't. I tend not to be too much of an over-enthusiastic nerd when it comes to most anything on TV, but I tell you what, I have been counting down the days until Glee finally returns with new programs. If you watch Glee, chances are you are just as excited as I am about their return from a four month hiatus; if you don't watch Glee, you really should. Like, really should.

For those of you who want to catch up on what you missed so far, don't worry, and don't spend all that time scouring bizarre video sites. Your Glee is just a click away: I just found a copy of the on Half.com for just $18.00 the other day, and there is currently a new copy for that at the moment, plus one for $18.99 with free two-day shipping - both prices are significantly less than what most of the other major retailers are asking for the box set. When you get either through Half.com, you will also be earning 4.0% Cash Back on your purchase when you use your Ebates account. In the box set, you will get four discs worth of musical goodness from all of our friends at McKinley High, including all thirteen episodes from the first half of the first season and a variety of extras that help you find out more about your favorite cast members, the music, and what it's like to spend a day in the life of Glee.

Get your copy and find out what everyone has been talking about, or if you have been watching from the beginning, re-live some of your favorite moments as New Dimensions tries to make their way to sectionals!

With the advent of 3D televisions starting to hit the market and technology being pushed that much more, there is one fantastic byproduct that is a huge help to those of us who are just behind the curve a little bit: prices have begun falling drastically on HDTVs that as recently as a few months ago were the absolute cutting edge of technology.

As I've been in the market for an HDTV for almost a year, I figured now was the best time to pull the trigger. My CRT television is starting a speedy slide into outdatedness, and after getting almost fifteen years of use out of it, it's just time to say goodbye. So I started researching; I knew I wanted at least a forty inch screen, 1080p, and a solid refresh rate. I looked around most of the major retailers, compared brands, prices, features, and compatibility. In the end, I found what I think should hopefully be the TV that will get me through the next fifteen years: the Samsung 46" Series 6 Black Flat Panel LCD HDTV. It pairs a giant screen (bordering on too big for my humble little abode) with a super-thin form factor, has 1080p, a 120Hz refresh rate, and is energy star compliant, which means it will continue to save me money over comparable TVs. It also has a feature called "BD Wise" which automatically adjust all the components for the optimal sound and picture quality. The menus are easy to navigate, and setup was a breeze - you don't have to be an engineer to be able to get up and running in no time, and once you are set up, the picture quality is like a dream come true.

Samsung HDTVAt the moment, Abt Electronics has the best deal I could find on this model, with a retail price of $999.00, which is $100 less than the list price. On top of that you get free shipping and also no sales tax, and I tell you, when you get to purchases of this magnitude, especially for an over-sized package, that can make a huge difference. Plus, with 2.0% Cash Back, you stand to make about twenty bucks in cash back through Ebates.

This has been a good week for those of us who love watching movies and TV in the comfort of our own homes; not only did Target have a great deal on Mad Men that I wrote about the other day, I just found Fantastic Mr. Fox, which just came out on DVD on March 23rd for $20.23 with free shipping! Where did I find such an amazing deal, you ask? Good old Deep Discount, the website that has pretty much become my go-to shop for all my DVD purchases.

Fantastic Mr FoxYou're probably asking yourself "Bill, why Deep Discount? What's the obsession?" Luckily for me, the answer is simple: they have some of the best prices on a killer selection of merchandise. For instance, I picked up Fantastic Mr. Fox for just $20.23, which is less than all the other retail outlets I checked once you factor in that there is neither tax nor a shipping charge. Yes, some other retailers offer a lower base price, but you end up getting enough little add-ons to tip the scales; plus, I just really appreciate a site where the price you see on the site is the price that you see on your bill.

Of course, while I was at it, I couldn't stop at just one DVD, so I also picked an anime box set that I'd been keeping an eye on called "Death Note" they had both Box One and Box Two at very competitive prices, I even was able to find Heart Beat, a relatively obscure movie from 1980 depicting the friendship between Beat Generation heroes Jack Kerouac and Neal Cassady, for about eight dollars less than anywhere else I could find it.

As always, you'll be getting 2.5% Cash Back whenever you shop at Deep Discount using your Ebates account, so the savings just keep piling up!

From time to time, we luck out. See, usually here at the Ebates blog we do a lot of searching and planning to find either some kind of great deal or some sort of deal that is so of-the-moment, you won't be able to believe that you can earn cash back on it.

Today, I hit the jackpot. For those of you out there who are, like me, a fan of Mad Men, you probably know that the DVD Box Set for Season Three just came out last week. Chances are, like me, you were keeping an eye out to find a great price. Chances are, like me, you went to a whole bunch of websites looking for a good price, and found most prices to be somewhere in the thirty five to forty dollar neighborhood. As tends to be the case with all the great finds, it's always in the place you least expect it. For me, it was Target. I always think about Target for inexpensive housewares, for clothing, and even occasionally for electronics, but I seldom think of Target as being a go-to place to find DVDs. But sure enough, there it was: Mad Men Season Three on DVD for just $17.99. That's a savings of $31.99! That's a savings of 64% off the list price! That's absurd!

Mad Men Season ThreeThat's the kind of a deal that doesn't come around every day, so do what I did and click "add to cart" while you can, saving you a hearty amount of money, and earning you 3.0% Cash Back in the meantime. Also, take advantage of flat rate $2.99 shipping on Movies, Music, and Books through April 1st from Target, or search around for other great Target Coupons that you can use on items all over the site.

Keep up on the latest DVDs with help from our Music & Movies Category!

If you're geeky like me, then hopefully you watch Discovery Channel. If you watch Discovery Channel, hopefully you've seen the trailers for (or even the premier installment of) their new series LIFE. Brought to you by the producers of the wildly popular Planet Earth, this series focuses on animal life here on Earth. It's hard to believe the work that went into a series like this; the eleven-episode series was culled from over three thousand days of stunning HD footage, and the production has been four years in the making.

But you know what, folks? After watching last night's episode, it's been worth the wait.

LIFE on Discovery ChannelThat's why I'm so excited to let you know that you can pre-order the entire four disc set of LIFE from the Discovery Channel Store. If you go through your Ebates account (and why wouldn't you?) you will get 5.0% Cash Back, and we are also offering a coupon code for free shipping when you order LIFE on DVD or Blu-Ray. Just enter code LIFEDVD for free shipping with your pre-order; but hurry, that offer expires on March 28th, so the sooner you order, the more you'll save!

One more great opportunity to mention to you: the Discovery Channel Store is also offering a giveaway of their own, with the grand prize winner getting a Wildlife Safari valued at nearly $10,000, five lucky winners will receive a Blu-Ray player, the LIFE Collector's Book, and select Discovery Channel series on Blu-Ray. Ten winners will receive the LIFE Blu-Ray and select Discovery Channel series on Blu-Ray, and twenty lucky winners will receive the LIFE Collector's Book, all for simply entering your email address. Just follow this link, and you will be prompted how to register for the sweepstakes!

So what are you waiting for? Pre-order your copy and save!

On Sunday March 7th, this year's Academy Awards will air on ABC. Breaking away from the tradition for the 82nd installment, expect to see not one but two hosts (Steve Martin and Alec Baldwin, it begs the question if the stage is big enough for both of them!), a plethora of nominees for the top categories (the best picture slot has ten), and lots of other new and unexpected twists and turns during the show. In an effort to attract viewers, the Academy has stepped it up, alienating those who would prefer they stick to tradition (ahem Blogmaster General) in order to attract and keep viewers interested in the rather long awards show. For someone like me, I fall somewhere in between the Oscar purist mentality and the "bring on the new" attitude. While I would rather not dilute the Best Picture category with so many slots, I do think it allows for a broader spectrum of nominees. And no matter what, I will tune in if not just for the fashion, the glamor, and the cringe-inducing preshows!

inglouriousbasterdsdvd
No matter where you stand, Oscar time is a great time to review some of your favorite movies from years past or brush up on this years many nominees. The most cost efficient way to do this is to sign up for a Netflix account, through Ebates where you will earn $13 Cash Back and have all of your Oscar movies on their way to your house (or streaming instantly) in no time. If you would rather own the Oscar Films in the flesh, shop at Barnes & Noble (who have increased to 8.0% Cash Back for Ebates Travel Week) who have a complete selection of Oscar classics and this years nominees all at great prices on DVD. My pick, is Inglorious Basterds. I rarely buy movies these days, but I loved this one so much I cannot resist. Ill get it for $22.04 and increased cash back from Ebates.

Shop all of your Oscar Favorites and tune in for this years show! And tell me, are you excited for the new format or are you an Oscar Traditionalist?

NBC Vancouver 2010 Highlights DVDRegardless of if you are an avid Olympics watcher or someone who tunes in from time to time, there is something special about the Olympics. Watching athletes from around the globe come together to display their talents is truly a one-of-a-kind event and worth tuning in to. I love the figure skating although I cringe and look away when a skater slips or falls.

This year seems especially magical, and although there is a really healthy dose of competition, there seems to be a real sense of sportsmanship and community among all the athletes and I am all for that. A way to remember this memorable Olympic Games is by shopping at the NBC Universal Store, where you will get 3.0% Cash Back from Ebates and  good deals on a ton of memorabilia and Olympic swag. One of these can't miss items is the 2010 Vancouver Olympics DVD with highlights of all the events. You can pre-order your copy for just $24.99 and it will be shipped to you when it is released on April 27th.

Also find team U.S.A. tee shirts, pins, hats, flags, athlete video games, and much, much more. Show your support of the games or you favorite athlete and save when you shop at NBC Universal Store though Ebates!

Thursday night I had a little spare time when I got home from work, so I decided to spend the evening at a few local used music and book stores. As most of you who read this blog on any kind of regular basis probably already know, this can be a very dangerous thing for someone with a disposition like mine. See, I go to stores with a set list in mind, and I know exactly what I want. Then I look a bit more, and a little more. Next thing you know (as happened Thursday) a trek to get a handful of new books and music ends up being four CDs, five DVDs, and three books at a cost of something in the neighborhood of $125. This is what happens when I have a night with nothing going on - I'd have been better off staying home.

half.com dealsBut really, I'd have been much better off had I just gone to Half.com. I wouldn't have driven around town, I wouldn't have had to walk to and from my car in the rain, and I probably would have gotten the same stuff for about two thirds of what I paid. It's no exaggeration: even at used prices, I found almost every item I bought on Half.com for less, plus in most cases, I wouldn't have paid California's ridiculously high sales tax, and I would have earned 4.0% Cash Back - talk about making your money work for you! With the cash back I could have earned, I would have been able to get another book! (which is exactly what I need)

So check it out for yourself - they have an amazing selection of books, DVDs, Music, Textbooks, and video game stuff (consoles, games, accessories, etc). I know it may not mean much to you, but what impressed me is that they have solid discounts on books by Charles Bukowski. That may seem like a random statement, but I just had a discussion in the lunchroom on Friday about how the bookstore I went to (one of SF's most renowned) didn't have anything I didn't already own, and that other website named after that rainforest didn't have good used prices on any of his titles. Lo and behold, I should have just gone to Half.com for great prices and 4.0% Cash Back.

Find what you want at Half.com or at eBay, it's parent company.

With the season premiere of the final season of Lost just around the corner, I am feeling a little anxious about getting back into the dysfunctional relationship I have with the show. Throughout the five seasons on air, I have been in a constant love/hate cycle but remain totally hooked, and no matter how many times I swear I am not going to watch or that I am "done with Lost", I eagerly tune in the following week. Most devoted Lost fans have felt this way sometime or another. The show is inherently unsatisfying, confusing, and far-fetched. Why do I keep going back? Because no other show could make me feel this way.

I am a true fan.

Lost Season 5 at Overstock With 4.0% Cash BackTo prepare for the event (9 p.m. Tuesday February 2nd on ABC), I have all my previous season DVDs queued up so that I am fully prepared for another four months of punishment. If you too need to prepare yourself, pick up seasons 1-5 at Overstock, where you will get 4.0% Cash Back from Ebates and huge discounts on the  DVD's that sell for $18.99- $26.99 for various seasons. If buying the DVDs is too much of a commitment, prepare for the premiere and put $13 in your Ebates account when you sign up for Netflix through Ebates and rent the DVDs.

Then you've come to the right place. See, as you may already know, there's this football game coming up, and it's called the Super Bowl. You might have heard of it. It's kind of a big deal, especially to football fans. But there's one thing you can count on every year, whether you are a football fanatic or someone who thinks a two point conversion is an economics term: amazing sales on televisions. The reason for this is simple: the Super Bowl is one of the most watched television events all year in the U.S., and for that very reason, retail stores try to offer the best deals possible for folks who are interested in impressing their friends with a new and sleek TV on which to watch the game. This year, eBay is running a special in their Daily Deals section proving why they're consistently our most popular merchant.
eBay Daily DealWhen I noticed that eBay was featuring HDTVs of all shapes and sizes in their Daily Deals, I couldn't believe some of the prices. By shopping through them, you'll be saving up to 39% on a wide array of televisions, ranging from nineteen inches all the way up to fifty five. Best of all for yours truly, all of these TVs will be shipped free. As always, you'll also be earning 2.0% Cash Back on your purchases when you shop through Ebates. If you've even been considering getting a new flat screen HDTV, even if it's just in the back of your mind, you really owe it to yourself to at least check the prices and discounts on some of these TVs - I know I was surprised at just how inexpensive a new HDTV has gotten.

Unless you've been living under a rock over the past few days, you've heard all about all the controversy over the Jay Leno vs. Conan O'Brien late night time slotting fiasco. It's been everywhere, everyone is talking about it, and the entire future of the outlook of NBC's late night lineup lies in the balance.

Conan LenoImage courtesy of MSNBC

While I'm not here to sway your opinion (go Conan go!), I just wanted to remind you all that no matter whose camp you are in, you can get all the officially-licensed merchandise you could ever want at the NBC Universal Store. So if you want to get your hands on some short-lived Jay Leno Show schwag (think about the collector's value!) or if you want to show your support of Conan's hosting the Tonight Show by picking up some Tonight Show merch, you can find it all at the NBC Universal Store with 3.0% Cash Back. Hey, you can still score some older "Tonight Show with Jay Leno" products on clearance. Same thing with all the old "Late Night with Conan O'Brien" merchandise, of which there is a ton, I'm telling you. (I have a Pale Force lunchbox with my name written all over it)

So, no matter what happens with this late night feud, remember - if you want Conan and Leno merchandise, and you want 3.0% Cash Back, make sure you shop through Ebates.

Apple iTunes CouponsI know we've written about this in the past, but I feel like every now and again it's worth mentioning one more time: you can earn 3.0% Cash Back through Ebates when you purchase items from the iTunes store. This includes everything from music and movies to iPhone apps. Granted, you do have to click through an Ebates link, and use your computer rather than your mobile device, but wouldn't you do that if you knew you'd be getting cash back on everything you buy?

Take it from a guy who has an iPhone, two iPods, and about sixty days worth of music in his iTunes account: you can really rack up some cash on these downloads, especially if you are the type who finds it easier to rent or download a movie or TV episode via iTunes rather than catch it the first time through. Also, don't forget that many popular bands also have iTunes-only releases which are usually both inexpensive and filled with little gems like live performances or B-side recordings.

What makes this almost more impressive of a deal is that Ebates offers 1.0% Cash Back from the Apple Store, but 3.0% Cash Back on iTunes purchases - so despite the fact that you don't have anything physical to show for it, you are getting a better deal on cash back when shopping for music and more at the iTunes Store.

Ladies and gents, every now and then a great sale just falls in your lap. For once, rather than scouting around Ebates for a sale, I had one practically come knock on my front door. See, my friends know me to be an appreciator of fine cinema, and as I own a handful of Criterion Collection edition DVDs of my favorite flicks, they took it upon themselves to keep me in the know -- Barnes & Noble.com is currently offering 50% off all Criterion Collection DVDs or Blu-Ray Discs. So this is your chance to snatch up copies of such classic films as "Brazil", or "Two Lane Blacktop", or Fellini's "8 1/2". So, in other words, these aren't your Disney classics or Jerry Bruckheimer blockbusters. The good news is that most of these movies are hard if not impossible to find otherwise, and you can get all the cool additional features that come with the Criterion Collection without the somewhat inflated Criterion Collection price tag.

Two-Lane BlacktopSo whether you are a film geek (like yours truly) or just know one who is hard to find Christmas presents for, this is a great chance to really make that movie collection of your shine with a little bit of extra independent cred. So if, like me, you get a thrill out of the idea of seeing a weary knight play chess against the grim reaper in Ingmar Bergman's "The Seventh Seal", you will be thrilled to know that you can get the Criterion Collection edition DVD from Barnes & Noble.com for just $14.99, plus 4.0% Cash Back.

Pop up some popcorn and find your movie of choice with some great cash back in our Music & Movies category!

Hocus Pocus at DisneystoreBeing from Massachusetts means Halloween is more than a holiday, it's a cultural tradition. Steeped in nearly 400 years of history, The Bay State is home to The Salem Witch Trials, The Granary Cemetery (final resting place for Paul Revere, Sam Adams, and John Hancock) and cobble stone streets so old, you'd think you traveled back in time. With this being said, it should come as no surprise that my all time favorite Halloween movie is Hocus Pocus. Thanks to Ebates Spooky Savings, I can buy this wickedly funny movie at DisneyStore.com where I'll get 5.0% Cash Back and find other savings like up to 25% off all costumes.

A tale of three sisters who travel back from colonial Salem to work their witchcraft in hopes of eternal life, this movie stars two of my favorite actresses; Betty Davis and Miss Carrie Bradshaw herself, SJP. At just $12.99, this movie is more than a sweet treat for a homesick New Englander, it's also a great deal. While others may hit the streets in costume, I'll be curled up on my couch, sipping hot apple cider, and watching my three favorite witches.

True BloodTomorrow marks the season finale of TV's hottest show: True Blood, and there's no fangbanger who's as excited as me. To prepare for tomorrow's evening of vampires, werewolves, and Maenads, I'll be cooking a traditional Lousiana meal and sipping on the newly released TruBlood drink. No, you don't need to be a vampire to enjoy the taste, but you do need to visit the HBO Store for 4.0% Cash Back and other memorabilia, including the book that started it all, The Sookie Stackhouse Diaries.

Being the number one fan of this show, I love that I can shop HBO Store and find beer glasses from my favorite bar, Merlotte's, Bon Temps football jerseys, and cast member t-shirts. There are also posters, the True Blood original soundtrack, and Season One on DVD. beatles rock bandAs a musician and someone brought up listening to music on my parents' console stereo, I've had a longtime love affair with the music of The Beatles. I also happen to be a somewhat avid Rock Band player, so when I heard about Beatles Rock Band, I almost plotzed.

As if that thrill weren't enough, as a way of celebrating arguably the greatest rock band of all time, stores started putting the Beatles Anthology DVD set on sale. Granted, this week it's almost impossible to turn on VH1 and not see some part of the anthology on TV, but this way, you can watch them any hour of any day.

If you're like the drummer in my band, your gripes about music have to do with restoring old recordings or poor mixing and mastering; wishing that old albums could have taken full advantage of modern recording quirks. Well, Beatles fans, your dream just came true. With the Beatles Discography Re-Mastered, the only question left is if you want to retain the original sensibilities of the mono recordings, or if you want to experience the cutting-edge stereo mixes.

No matter what you choose, you'll get 4% Cash Back on all those purchases at Barnes and Noble.com just by using your Ebates account!

You can usually tell the overachievers on the first day of school: they have their textbooks, color-coded notebooks, and assortment of pens. While I cannot deny that I was that person in college, one thing I learned very quickly was to not buy a book until after the first day of class. You may drop the class, get wind of horror stories about a professor, or you may find a better deal online. Like at Barnes & Noble, where they have low prices on thousands of textbooks. Plus, You will get 8% Cash Back from Ebates and free in-store returns! You don't need to hassle with return shipping and waiting for a refund. Instead, you can return your unwanted merchandise to a store and quickly get your cash.

Cash Back on Mad Men Season 2 At Barnes & Noble

On Thursday August 20th at 10 p.m., Project Runway returns for their sixth season. One of the biggest changes is that is will be airing on a new network: Lifetime. Despite Project Runway's new home, not much about the show will change except that now, instead of seeing incessant commercials promoting Kathy Griffin's reality series, we will see trailers for made-for-TV lifetime movies. I am happy for the reprieve.

Look forward to sixteen new designers (meet them and check out their virtual portfolios here) with Tim, Hedi, Nina and Michael Kors back to judge for the new season.

$11 Cash Back at Disney Movie Club!Considering TV has turned into one giant reality show filled with drama, drunkenness, and things best left in the bedroom, it's no wonder smart stylish women (such as myself) are turning to Disney for a lighthearted change. $13 Cash Back At Netflix A truly unique experience is the shock resulting in the end of a promotional cable bill increase. The worst part is the knowledge that your services have not improved but now cost twice as much. There is no better time to open up your double-the-cost-bill than when a commercial simultaneously comes on the television advertising the same service you have for almost 1/3 of the price. It was in this moment, sometime last month, that I decided to make a change.

For fear of sounding like Andy Rooney, I will end my rant there and offer a solution. In my effort to end my indentured servitude to the cable company empire, I down-graded my service and signed up with Netflix, through Ebates and got $13 Cash Back, which is essentially one month free, plus you get a two-week no obligation free trial. Coupled with cash back, you get over a month of free service from Netflix. Have the DVD's shipped or watch instantly on your television or computer.

Harry Potter MerchandiseYou know it, I know it, and most people across the country know it -- yesterday marked the long-long-long awaited release of the sixth installment of the Harry Potter film franchise with "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince". Most folks predict that with this movie, the Potter franchise will out-earn James Bond in total box office revenue, and I know a few employees who came in a little bleary-eyed this morning from going to the midnight showing. One thing you have to love about the release of each new Harry Potter movie is a new wave of Harry Potter merchandise, from wands, robes, and broomsticks to all seven Harry Potter Books as well as tons of supplemental readings.

So where should you go for all your Potter-lovin' needs? Everybody should know by now, both Borders and Barnes & Noble have everything any bibliophile could ever ask for, and they have a ton of other assorted Potter-phenalia for you muggles out there. One merchant that impressed me was Sears: they have almost two hundred different Harry Potter products for sale, and there's also the Scholastic Store - remember, Scholastic is the company that publishes the Harry Potter books, so they have the rights to all sorts of cool Potter stuff. Wherever you choose to shop - make sure you head there through Ebates and earn some cash back on your purchases!

Anyone out there seen the movie yet? I haven't gone, but I'm really excited - comment your thoughts of it (without spoilers!).

hd dvd
I fear you might have missed the word about Blu-Ray. Fortunately for you, I have two bits of good news!

First - if you are indeed looking for HD DVD Sales, you can probably find some HD DVDs still on eBay, since that's where everyone should go to find pretty much everything.  And when you're getting something at a used price with 3% Cash Back, it's as good as a sale.

Second - if you are looking for Blu-Ray stuff on sale, the HBO Store currently has great deals on all sorts of Blu-Ray editions of their famous shows and miniseries. Just cruise on over there, use this coupon for 15% off any order plus 3% Cash Back.

So even if you're still feeling a little down about the whole Blu-Ray format thing, you can take some solace in the fact that now HD DVD Sales are more plentiful, as the video discs are now the abandoned format.

Although I have always seen March as the figurative "Wednesday" of the calendar months, it is a surprisingly eventful time of year. We can thank March for bringing us St. Patrick's Day, daylight savings, the first day of Spring, and the release of the Twilight DVD! Twiligters everywhere have been most eagerly awaiting March 21st, the day that they can get their warm, regrettably non-vampire hands on their very own copy of the "blockbuster" movie. Intelligent Twilighters (ahem) will be picking up their copy through Ebates and at either Barnes & Noble or Borders, where they can earn cash back and get exclusive coupons and deals on the movie.

Barnes&NobleTwilight.JPGAt Borders, you can get 4% cash back and an exclusive copy of the DVD, plus an 18-month Twilight calendar (because twelve months of Twilight is not enough), so every month can be just as exciting as the last with the cast of the novel/movie gracing the pages (Tell me, which month will Rob Pattinson be?). And, enjoy free shipping on orders of $25 or more!

Barnes and Noble has an exclusive DVD as well, and upon purchasing you get a free Twilight skin for your cell phone, PDA, or MP3 player and 4% cash back! This coming weekend, we'll find out the end of that sentence time and time again. As Oscar season dawns upon us again, there are folks like Allie and Poppy who are all abuzz over what the latest in red carpet fashion will be, while others like myself are most interested in what movies come out on top. When I first decided to write an Oscars blog, I was hoping to feature most of the movies nominated this year; however, there's one problem with that: most of those movies are currently in theaters, and I can't think of any Ebates merchants that offer discounts on movie tickets.

So, instead, I thought we could take this moment to look at some past successes, so we can see what this year's competitors will be stacked up against through the lens of history. I took a little time scouring some merchants to find the lowest possible prices on DVDs of previous "Best Picture" winners. So here we go:

dual.jpgWeekends are always a delight for me, as it's my favorite time of the week to bring you what I feel is an extra-special, interesting, or otherwise noteworthy product that you should know about. Today's top pick is not only noteworthy, it's downright fascinating! Behold: the Axion 7" Dual Widescreen Portable DVD Player.

Now, before you ask me "Why does that exist?" ask yourself just how much more awesome your life would be with a second screen. Go on! Do it! The correct answer is "far more", in case you were wondering, as this little Axion Dual-Screen DVD player brings twice the fun to any occasion. Stuck facing someone at a lunch table you'd rather not deal with? Pop open your DVD player! Afraid of an oncoming assailant? Make him/her laugh with one of your favorite movies - while you watch at the same time too! Amazing!

Hyperbole aside, this little gadget would likely prove invaluable to anyone looking to entertain a gaggle of children, a round table full of bored friends, or anyone in just about any other situation where one display isn't enough. While each tiny 7" screen may not be much on its own, the fact that the player can accurately power two LCD screens (that can practically display 720p visuals) is an outstanding feat in its own right. Scoff at it all you want, but I'd bet cold hard cash that this little Dual Widescreen portable DVD player has come in handy in more than one occasion. If you're ready to find out just how great the dual-screen life is, head on over to Newegg and pick one up for just $129 (that's $20 off!). Only then will you be able to see how wonderful two simultaneous screens of awesome truly is.

cards2.jpgWith the bulk of our HDTV series over, it's time to relax and get ready for the impending awesome that is your amazing new HDTV. If you missed out on our tips in the previous three installments (featuring HDTV info, hands-on research, and the final touches to complete your HDTV heaven), feel free to give them a peek to help you pick out the best HDTV for your last-minute football party, or just to help you choose your new 'tube any time of year. Now that the gruntwork's behind me, how about I let you in on my own experience picking out a great HDTV online?

Much like I recommended earlier, my HDTV quest started with a bit of research. For starters, I had to pick out which kind of a HDTV set I wanted. Would LCD or Plasma be the best for me? After a bit of reading, I opted to go for the LCD since my living space is rather well-lit, and I wanted the vibrant colors of the LCD over the black depth that makes Plasmas shine in dark settings. Also, since I tend to watch/play a lot of things like video games and news stations that have stagnant images that tend to "burn into" screens, I didn't want to take the risk of damaging my TV. The choice was clear; I just needed to figure out what TV was right for me.

Shortly thereafter, I hit the streets to see if the LCDs actually delivered. To my surprise, they did. Set after set, the HDTVs with LCD technology looked generally brighter and clearer than their Plasma counterparts; so much so that I still opted for the LCD after picking out a little "motion blur" on the majority of the sets. With that said, one brand consistently stood out as the cream of the crop (especially when price was considered), and that brand was Samsung. While this may come as a bit of a surprise to some, Samsung has been one of the foremost manufacturers of LCD computer monitors for years now. With years and years of LCD production under their belt, it's obvious that Samsung is doing something right with the technology, as their screens looked great at practically any size.

Samsung_LN52A650.JPGOut of all of the Samsung models, though, the 650 series stood out to me as the TV with the best bang for my buck. While the 750 and 850 models are fine and dandy (and include a few superfluous additions in the way of inputs and features), the overall image quality varies so little, they might as well be overpriced doppelgangers. The 650 series features outstanding 120hz technology that eliminated most motion blur and makes people look "more real than real," and has speakers that outshine the 850 according to many reviewers. The viewing angle was outstanding and the picture was superb; I just had to get it.

After picking out the model of HDTV that impressed me the most, I ran back to my computer to find the best price. After looking around at Best Buy.com, Newegg, and even WalMart, I opted for Abe's of Maine for a few choice reasons. First, the HDTV was over $400 cheaper than in stores (and approximately $100-200 less than its online competitors) and featured free shipping. In addition to the free shipping, it included a free wall mount ($80+ value) and NO TAX. Toss in the $10 promotional code and 1% cash back, and I just couldn't say no. All in all, my combined savings came out to be somewhere in the $600-700 range just by doing my homework and shopping on the internet. Imagine how much you can save, too!

Within a week of ordering my HDTV, it was at my house. After gently unloading it from the shipping truck, I had a friend of mine lend me a hand with unpacking and setting it up in my house. It only took a few minutes to plug in the TV and unpack the remote, and viola! An HDTV of my dreams, in my very own home, with no dead pixels and no noticeable problems at all (knock on wood!). It's not too late to use in-store pickup and still save hundreds of dollars, so go get your big game HDTV before kickoff to ensure you have the best Super Bowl party yet!

Sex and the City.jpgAs reported earlier this week, a Sex and the City Sequel has been confirmed as your favorite set of New York City BFFs are on board for a follow up to last summer's mega hit spinoff to the cult-classic television show. Like many devoted fans, I am not sure how I feel about the news. I could never NOT be excited to see ladies of Sex and the City, but the last film did not even remotely compare to the greatness of the television show. And a sequel to the movie could be even more of a departure from the individuality and greatness that spoke to so many single women for so many years. This same sentiment is shared by most SATC fans I have spoken to about the news, but we do have sometime to make up our minds about it.  The release of the second film is obviously a long way out, shooting is not even rumored to begin until this summer.

SATCCompleteSet.jpgSo whats a fan to do in the meantime? Satiate you desire for quality time with your favorite friends by watching the series from start to finish. If you don't have the complete series, start building your collection now and catch up with the gals one season at a time. Get the complete series collectors set from Target for 67% off at just $99 with 4% cash back. You'll save almost $200! It could possibly be one of the best ways on earth to spend a hundred bucks and it will provide endless entertainment. Looking to give a Valentines Day gift to someone special? This is a fantastic gift for a Valentine if you are not looking to go the "jewelry and chocolate" route.

Regardless of how you feel about the first installment to the SATC movie franchise, it really is a feel-good watch and a necessary addition to the DVD collection. Get it from Best Buy for just $24.99 (for the special collectors' edition) with 1% cash back and speedy shipping. By the time you have exhausted all Sex and the City moments on DVD, you will, like me, be ready for some more... just in time for the sequel!

LOST.jpg
When it comes to ABC's show Lost, people fall into two categories: those who don't watch the show and Lost Fanatics. This show requires a lot of patience from viewers, so there are not a ton of fair-weather lost fans out there; either you like it or you don't. As such, tomorrow night is either just another Wednesday night, or the much-anticipated season premiere. For those of us who feel like we have been waiting too long (officially, it has been eight months and eight days - I was secretly hoping they would have made the wait time connect to the ever-perplexing "lost numbers"...) for the new season, tomorrow's season premiere feels like a long time coming. I have been waiting in anticipation and started preparing for the big day over the weekend. I checked on the functionality of my DVR to prevent any technical mishaps that would cause it to not record the two hour episode fully or at all, because if you miss a second, you miss the entire episode.

More importantly, I caught up on past episodes to refresh myself on the eventful moments of seasons past. I previously purchased my LOST DVD collection through Ebates at Barnes & Noble, with 4% cash back. Seasons 1-4 are available (sold separately) for $43-$48, you save between 10-20% of the original price. They ship very quickly and for free, so soon enough you will be catching up yourself. You can also pick up a complete set at eBay with 3% back, the current bid for one such set is just over $100. If that is all too much of a commitment or a strain on your pocketbook, you can rent season 1-4 through Netflix and get $18 back for signing up.

DharmaJumpsuit.jpgJust as important as how you prepare for tomorrow night, is what you wear to enjoy the first episode of the rest of your life. An appropriate choice is this official Lost Dharma Jumpsuit from the ABC TV Store, for $89.95 with 4% cash back. When purchasing this item, you get a set of free Dharma tattoos with purchase (enter TATTOO at checkout). Show off your devoted fanaticism and buy this suit, that can be worn over clothes (as demonstrated by this dapper looking headless man in the photo pictured above). Likewise, It makes a great gift for any fan in your life and will pay for itself when you have to go to a spur of the moment costume party. Buy this suit, catch up on DVDs and increase the level of excitement every time you tune into an episode of your favorite show, and be prepared for anything that LOST brings your way.

As a new season of Fox's super-sized mega hit "reality" show American Idol is upon us, voyeurs, I mean viewers, say hello to a new batch of eager contestants thirsty for their fifteen minutes of fame. In the dawn of new faces, like Bikini Girl and Eccentric, we so easily discard the winners and the losers of seasons past; the embarrassing, the sad, and the institutional. I ask myself, what is the legacy of the William Hungs of the world, where do the Fanjayas turn after the Sanjayamania turns into a bad pop-culture hangover? The American Idol roadkill get book deals, or even better recording contract and the fans get a paperback or glossy-covered CD relic to remember them by.

Hangin'WithHung.JPG
So if you still miss William Hung and his socially-awkward alien like behavior, you can pick up his DVD documentary/album, Hanging With Hung, for only $9.99 at Borders with 4% cash back. Because, really don't you miss his powerful rendition of the intoxicating "She Bangs"? Plus, it will make a great addition to your DVD collection, as visitors marvel "Wow, I cant believe you actually own that."

Sanjaya.JPG

If you are less in to William Hung, and a more of a late blooming "idolizer", you can pick up Sanjaya's Memoirs of the Idol experience, Dancing to the Music In My Head: Memoirs of The People's Idol and reminisce about his fascinating journey from "obscure" high school teenager to "obscure" reality star to just plain obscurity. You will also get to learn whats next for Sanjaya, as his story reminds readers that the world is his oyster and so it is your own. Get a copy for 20% off, and just $15.99, at Barnes and Noble with 4% cash back.

BodyWithSoul.JPG

Exceptional literature is not only reserved for the contestants, but also the judges. If you want to live the good life a la Randy Jackson, get a copy of his attempt at writing in the form of Body With Soul from Alibris for a modest $4.98 with 3% cash back. This potpourri of information mixes memoir, a wellness program and inspirational advice, courtesy of Randall Darius, better known as Randy Jackson. Get your copy and let him guide you to "the best you" this year.

If you ever find yourself as an American Idol reject: your fifteen minutes of fame expired and all your friends and relatives can't stand you anymore, there is hope for you yet. You will leave behind a rich legacy of  vague memories of your television moments, a couple of unwatched YouTube videos, and just maybe some amazing literature.

American-IdolOnce again it's my favorite time of the year. A time when openly laughing at someone's else performance is not only social acceptable, but welcomed. A time when such serious questions as "Does Ryan Seacrest Date?" come up frequently in conversations, a time when a mouthy brit has something more to say than "Sharon!".

Of course I'm talking about American Idol.

After a six month break, American Idol is back at it with season eight. A new season means new contestants, new fights between an intoxicated Paula and an angry Simon, and of course new chances for Randy to call someone his "dawg". Along with the banter and shameful auditions comes a new judge by the name of Kara DioGuardi. Not familiar with the name or face, I did some research on the latest Idol judge and have come to two conclusions. The first is that she is responsible for nearly every major pop song you've ever heard. The second is that her face seems to be the handiwork of an over-zealous plastic surgeon. While one's personal relationship with a scalpel is really none of my business, it does make for an interesting character. Any concerns I had about her not being as entertaining as the other judges were quickly squashed, when she attempted to out-sing the bikini girl from last night's Phoenix auditions. I have no doubt she will entertain us as much as Paula's attempts to remain sober.

For those who missed last night, the series premiere kicked off with auditions in PhoenixIdol Karaoke.jpg where a young woman by the name of Arianna stole the show. As if her voice wasn't good enough, creating her own charity for the elderly puts her on my "Definitely going to Heaven" list. Less fun was the boring Tuan who wasn't bad enough to laugh at, but was bad enough not go to Hollywood. Hopefully tonight's auditions being held in Kansas City will offer some crazier moments. It's audition time, and I have my popcorn handy, and my DVR remote ready.

For the superfans out there who can't get enough, or for those of you who misplaced your copy of From Justin To Kelly, you too can now sing along with American Idol Karaoke Revolution. I found this gem at Barnes & Noble for just $49.99. Available for XBOX 360, Playstation, and Wii, this mega fan must-have is the only way to audition for the judges. Assuming that waiting in line amongst thousands of people isn't your thing, in which case neither is driving to the nearest store in standing in line. Luckily with Ebates you'll receive 4% cash back all from the comforts of your own home. You can sing along with favorite contestants or alone, I prefer to have some support, as I've been known to shatter glass with my vocals. But hey, at least I'm aware of it. So here's to another season of American Idol, and another season of knowing not to quit my day job!

For those of you who share in my love of auditions gone bad, here is my all time favorite audition..EVER. Enjoy!

val0.jpgAs a general rule, I try not to use this blog as a soapbox to reach out for video game convertees. Sure, I'll toss the idea out every once in a while, keep you informed about a great title that could make your weekend, or just point our a few hot titles for the season, but I've yet to truly emphasize a game as much as Valkyria Chronicles. Not only is the one of the best games of 2008 (universally heralded by the pitifully few who played it), but it's a completely refreshing, unique take on a genre that I think too many have skipped over for all the wrong reasons.

For those who've yet to hear about this curious little title, Valkyria Chronicles is an anime-inspired Strategy Role-Playing Game (RPG) for the PlayStation 3. It tells the tale of Welkin Gunther, a 22-year-old university student-turned-tank commander who must lead his militia against the invading evil East European Imperial Alliance. It's 1935, and just as any historian would likely let you know, the Eastern European Imperial Alliance has been encroaching upon the peaceful Atlantic Alliance for years now. What began as a small group of soldiers making their way throughout the Eastern Bloc in the later 1920's steadily grew into a great hulking behemoth of an army that takes every city and country along their path, obviously hearkening back to the way Hitler came to power around the same time in our own worldview.

val1.jpg Valkyria Chronicles is a "Strategy RPG", meaning that you control multiple characters one by one against opposing forces. Usually this is done on a grid of some sort (restricting your movement to a set amount of squares), but instead things are handled a bit differently. Each character has a motion gauge that corresponds to their class, meaning that the weaker Scouts can move the farthest to examine their surroundings, while the trigger-happy Shocktroopers have a much more limited range to use to eliminate foes. Battle takes place whenever your unit is in range of the enemy: you simply press R1 to go into combat mode, "Square" to cycle through your weapons, aim, and fire. You control each character separately, yet each of their action follows one another seamlessly; miraculously invoking the feeling of what it would really be like to control an entire army advancing troop-by-troop through enemy lines.

val2.jpg Equally refreshing is the game's story, as it's surprisingly not something that's pulled out of the aether and tacked onto some haphazard anime characters - it actually feels like a living story you create and interact with on a constant basis. Instead of "feeling" like a normal video game with incessant battles and generic story lines, Valkyria Chronicles tells its tale through a virtual "storybook" that you progress through chapter-by-chapter, with events, dialog, and battles that flesh out the story that take place in bite-sized increments along the way. The artistic design is breathtaking from top to bottom, with luscious watercolor landscapes belying the gritty reality of wartime atrocities. After all, war is real. Battles are real. And when you launch headfirst into battles with the team you personally assembled from scratch, you feel it too.

Unfortunately, too many factors have played into Valkyria Chronicles selling less than 100,000 copies in the US since its release - a fate worse than death for any multi-million dollar video game company. Even though it's doing a pinch better overseas, the sad fact is that too many people are skipping over this original, beautiful title in favor of other holiday plunder, or putting it onto their "to buy" list in case there's ever a sale. To this I must cry: Don't! It's a shame when such an original game comes out and doesn't receive the recognition it truly deserves, as the video game industry needs much more games that take risks and innovate like this one. Give the free demo a try on the PlayStation Network, or pick it up from any one of our wonderful retailers (might I suggest Newegg.com for $56.99 with 2% cash back?). It's a stellar game that's worth even the tiniest bit of time, even if you don't think you'll care for it much. I know that I hardly care for Strategy RPGs myself, yet this game has me gushing more than a steamrolled pack of Gushers. Try it; you'll like it!

Let's take a few minutes and analyze our home theater setups, shall we? Just how many electronic devices do you have hooked up to your TV at the moment? If you're like most people, you're probably looking at a TV, a cable box, a DVD player of some sort, possibly a receiver, and maybe even a videogame console or two if you're so inclined. As the number of electronics devices that populate our living areas increase from year to year, the amount of control juggling that goes into relaxing in front of the tube grows exponentially. For me, it takes three remotes,  four clicks, and two spilled drinks to even start my evening wind down, and that's not even counting the videogame controllers! Things are just getting absurd around my place, which leads me to believe that the Logitech 880 Universal Remote just might be my only hope for sanity.

logitech.jpgWhile any Tom and Dick Harrison can go out and grab an obnoxiously large and clunky universal remote from the corner store for $10, the Logitech 880 sets itself apart through its easy-to-navigate color LCD screen and intelligent PC setup, features that make it one of the best remotes out there. It's incredibly easy to use, remembers any and all necessary commands for a particular input, and even stores "favorite" settings to make your life that much easier. Want to push one button and listen to the CD in your CD player? Done. How about booting up your Xbox after an all-night DVD marathon? Even easier. Even though it may seem a little silly at first, the sheer convenience of having one remote to perfectly handle the handful of remotes you have strewn across your coffee table cannot be understated.

If you're ready to save some time, and give your fingers (and arms) a break from all the reaching and juggling, the Logitech 880 Infared Remote Control can be had from Newegg for $150; a small price to pay for a lifetime of convenience. This is $50 less than you can find it anywhere else, and includes free shipping, so hop on this offer before the free shipping won't make it to your doorstep by the 24th! It's the perfect gift for the gadget-laden guy/gal who has everything!

It's a rainy afternoon here in San Francisco, the first of the season, really. If there's one thing that the rain makes me want to do, besides stay in bed, is stay inside and watch TV all day. There's one problem with that these days (besides the whole being employed thing) and that is my opinion that there is nothing good to watch on regular network television these days.  Sure, there are some entertaining shows on in the evenings, but if it's before six o'clock, and you don't want to watch the news or talk shows, you're pretty much out of luck.

Doowop Don't give up hope... there is an easy solution - TimeLife.com! Most of you mainly know Time Life for their music collections, which are amazing. I can't express well enough how well these folks manage to assemble box sets of music that so accurately represent eras, genres, or artists' careers. They especially appeal to compulsive music hoarders like myself, who can't pass up the chance to own original archive recordings from bands in a ten-disc set.Freaks_and_geeks

But what most people don't realize is the vast collection of TV series box sets offered by Time Life. I have seen commercials for their box sets of older shows like the The Smothers Brothers or Get Smart, but I had no idea that they also had a handful of modern shows including personal favorites like Undeclared and Freaks and Geeks.

Not only are all these shows at already low prices, they all come with 6% cash back and a whole slew of coupons. That means you can get all 147 episodes of the cartoon The Real Ghostbusters with 6% cash back and free shipping, so stay in, make some popcorn, and take your TV (or stereo) for a trip down memory lane for a whole lot less with TimeLife.com.

Mgmlogo Why is this great news? According to Apple's Wednesday press release,

  • MGM has the largest modern film library in the world
  • Its movies have received 208 Academy Awards in its history, making it one of the biggest award winning collections of films in the world
  • Beginning today, iTunes customers will be able to purchase legendary films such as “Dances With Wolves,” “Mad Max,” “The Great Train Robbery” and “Rocky,” with other titles to be added in the coming weeks.

Oh, and to top it all off, you'll earn 3% Cash Back at iTunes when you start at Ebates! Maybe it's time to pick up an Apple TV so you can relax and watch those classic MGM movies on your tv, not your computer! The cheapest way to get your hands on an Apple TV is at Target- it's $299.99 with 4% Cash Back.

Hmm...4% Cash Back equals a total of $11.96...hey, now you can afford to buy Rocky on iTunes!

OscarWho has the time to watch every new movie as it arrives in theaters? Besides, when a movie and popcorn for two cost more than a month of satellite TV,  it's probably wiser to wait for the DVD release. With yesterday's announcement of the 2007 Oscar nominees, you may be tempted to see some of the year's films that you may have missed!

You can always buy DVD's, but most of the time one viewing is plenty. Why not rent? Ebates has four DVD rental services and each one is a little different.

Ebates offers the ever-popular Netflix as well as Peerflix, Movielink and Cinemanow. Did you know that if you sign up for Netflix (for the first time) through Ebates you earn $18 Cash Back? That adds up to about one month of free movie rentals! I have been using Netflix for a couple years and love it. Peerflix is a community in which you exchange DVD's with other members while Cinemanow and Movielink feature downloads (perfect for those of you with Apple TV!).

121106blogbunnysuit_1 The subject of holiday movies can reveal a lot about a person- and their family! While some cozy up with Jimmy Stewart's tear-jerking, seasonal homage to the everyman, others might choose...well, something a little non-traditional. Say, John McClane hurling Hans Gruber off the Nakatomi Plaza Hotel while "Silent Night" warbles softly in the background.

121106gremlinHey, my family watches Ingmar Bergman's four hour paranormal epic Fanny and Alexander every Christmas Eve. So what?

I did a little research (and by research, I mean I Googled "favorite holiday movies" and YM'd my coworkers) and have hopefully covered most of the popular holiday movies. I wanted to include Better Off Dead, but decided that just maybe, Gremlins was more deserving of a spot on this list.

So what are your favorite holiday movies?

Over at DeepDiscountDVD.com, they're running a "Buy One Box Set Get One Free" sale.

While most of the selections could probably be featured in this article, they could come in handy. Even if you don't have time to watch all of the Gallagher Sledge-O-Matic collection, you could pick up a couple of these as holiday gifts, "I'm sorry you're sick" presents, or even just "Thinking of You (and your bizarre love of 21 Jump Street)" friendship tokens.

Some would suggest queuing these on Netflix (and getting $18 Cash Back with Ebates upon joining), but you've probably got some friends or relatives who'd appreciate Hercules or Xena on DVD!

And, hey- I don't know one woman who hasn't curled up in front of Lifetime Television for Women on a Sunday afternoon. Cut out the middle man; buy Danielle Steel volumes one through four! Nothing says "relaxation" like an unending supply of Jaclyn Smith.

On a budget? Tired of leaving the Apple Store with nothing but your sleek, titanium-encased dreams? Try buying a refurbished Mac or iPod.

I know, the r-word kind of gets stuck in my throat, too. It's hard for me to imagine my iBook in the arms of another. Word on the street, though, is that discount ipod nanorefurbished Macs and iPods are just as good as the brand new ones, but at a fraction of the cost. Apple has a very stringent refurbishment process, so you can feel confident about your purchase.

If you still aren't 100% convinced, remember that all machines are covered by Apple's One Year Limited Waranty. You can even buy Apple Care for total reassurance. (Which I always recommend since the coverage is more than generous. My 2002 iBook turned out to have some irreparable glitches, so Apple issued me a new iBook- even though I'd had mine for 2 years already- all because I had Apple Care. How cool is that?)

An Ebates member named Michael (not the same one from a couple days ago!) had this to say about his experience with Apple Certified refurbished computers: "As a member of Ebates, I have purchased several refurbished products and will continue to do so over the next couple of years.  The product is just a good as new and I save several hundreds of dollars in addition to getting my big fat check."

Although most of you aren't Mac users (let's not go there), many of you love the iPod. Apple is reducing their refurbished iPods up to $80 off!

Make sure you start with Ebates so you can get some Cash Back, too!

I've been thinking about these past few months; about you, me,...about us. I've been reflecting on the many evenings we've spent together, the lazy mornings, the afternoons at home, sick with the flu.

I feel remorse when I think of all the times we could have shared; the many  long nights at Videomax...I didn't have to wait in those agonizing lines, watching my late fees rack up while  my life slowly rolled away- much like the tape in a dusty old VHS.

I could have been with you, Netflix, safe at home with a bowl of popcorn and Six Feet Under, or the Second Season of Diff'rent Strokes ("Whatchoo talkin' bout, Willis!" ).  I could have been watching The Lord of The Rings: Two Towers Widescreen, Special Extended Edition on the very day it was released with nary a care that for most video  stores, it would be out of stock. Those empty shelves in the "New  Release" section of Videomax would have been but a memory...

If I had only known that Ebates would give me $18 Cash Back,  upon signing up with you for the first time, maybe I would have acted  sooner- that's nearly two months worth of joyous laughter, tender tears  and precious, DVD-watching memories- for hardly any money at all! I  could have saved the money I threw away on late fees and five-day new  releases and saved it for something better: a shiny new DVD player, a flat screen TV , or perhaps an adorable mailbox in which you can comfortably wait for me to pick you up, dear friend.

At least I can take heart in the fact that others will soon love you the way I have, Netflix.  Others will come to appreciate your sweet, sweet queue: your way of  knowing just what they like to watch, when they want to watch it.  They'll understand your many plan options, each one suited to an  individual's wants- and needs, whether they want one, two, or three movies at a time.  They'll also take pleasure in that $18 from Ebates, and know that in their mailbox, next to your delicate red envelopes, they'll find an even fatter Big Fat Check.
